RIVER FOREST.....The Heart of Arlington
Welcome to the River Forest Community Website!
River Forest is located in the heart of Arlington. River Forest is a charming neighborhood with a variety of architechtural styles. Our streets are tree lined with ancient oaks gracefully draped with spanish moss. The area reflects a true Southern charm. Our Western neighborhood border is the peaceful St. John's river. A rare historical gem that flows north to the Atlantic Ocean.
River Forest is conveniently located to all areas of the city. River Forest is within the Arlington community. Arlington is the gateway to both the Beaches and Downtown.
As you visit our site you will learn about the history of River Forest/Arlington. You will also learn about our "Meet Your Neighbor Day". This is our neighborhoods bi-annual gathering. This event was inspired as a result of a neighbors death. In the past neighbors would gather together after such a tragic event. With todays society becoming less connected, and faced with the daily demands of fast paced living, this type of neighborly kindness is seen less and less. Leiah Carr, a lifelong native and resident of Arlington felt that people truely wanted to still "connect", they just didn't know how or have the opportunity. She spoke with her neighbor Darla Nichols and proposed a concept of holding a neighborhood potluck dinner under the title of "Meet Your Neighbor Day". They pitched in the first donation to purchase the items needed for the main entree', plates, etc. With a little hope and a lot of faith flyers were distributed originally to the neighbors on Windermere Drive. To their surprise they had a great turnout. It was such a success that they decided to do it originally four times a year, and to expand out to other streets within the River Forest neighborhood. Each time the event was held on a different neighbors front lawn, and on one of the ever expanding streets within the neighborhood. From this simple beginning the area formed the first "Neighborhood Watch" program. Signs were ordered, paid for by donations, and installed around the area. The event is now in it's 8th year and has continued to grow to include seven city blocks. To learn more about the bi-annual event visit our Meet Your Neighbor Day page.
