If you would like to host a "Meet Your Neighbor Day" event, please let us know. This is a combination of a time for neighbors to meet one another, as well as our bi-annual Crime Watch event.
It's simple!
All you need to do is agree to open your front yard to your neighbors. We like to have the host cook the main entree' such as grilled chicken, burgers, etc. The cost of this is covered by donations collected at each gathering. Each neighbor brings the side items to go along with the main entree'. Out of the funds collected we purchase the main dish, plates, napkins, and condiments when needed.
Each neighbor attending brings their own preferred beverage and chair, blanket, etc. to sit on. Once a year we have the local police officers come out and do a brief crime prevention presentation, as well as discuss neighborhood and area crime trends, and what you can do to prevent crime in our neighborhood.
The River Forest neighborhood has one of the lowest crime rates in our area primarily because the neighbors know one another and keep their eyes open to suspicious activity. The bi-annual event has had a VERY POSITIVE impact on our community.
We can't keep it up without a willing volunteer to simply do their part in keeping this tradition going. Thanks for your help, involvement and support. You really can and do make a difference!
